This is a favorite sleeping position to a lot of people, but, of course, there are some side effects to it. When you sleep on your stomach, you put your face on your pillow, and sometimes even press it against it. This means that you do not allow your facial skin to breath and the contact with the pillowcase may also cause the spreading of bacteria and some germs. And this can lead to inflammations and flaring up of zits.
Another side effect of sleeping on your stomach is that you place your neck in an unnatural position. It puts pressure on your neck and on your back as well. This may lead to some health problems in the future connected with backache. So, be careful about this sleeping position and change it from time to time. And sleeping on your left side has a positive effect on your digestive system. This is because your stomach is on your left side and the gastric juices in it will not be mixed and this will lead to the good functioning of your stomach the next day.
Another thing that you should do when you are sleeping in either of the two sleeping positions is to have two pillows – one for your head and one for your legs. This way both your neck and legs will have support. Do not choose a pillow that too big for you because the high support can also lead to some pain in the neck, literally.
