Glossy retro, brushed-out waves are definitely a hairstyle you should master! These waves deliver a certain French-inspired finish to your look. Since we could all use a little help in that department, we decided to create this special tutorial with detailed steps on how to achieve this retro hair look.

Preparing your hair for this French hairstyle should not be missed! Add a little leave-in conditioner on your ends and lengths of your hair. You can also invest in a special beach waves tousling spray to maximize volume and waves. Since you are about to use a heat styling straightener, it is very important to add a heat protection spray. This way your hair will be protected from split ends, breakage, dryness and lack of luster.

Step 1: Separate your hair so you can work in small, thin sections. This way it will be easier for you to add the curls as you go. Use a small-barrel curling iron, holding it horizontally so it’s parallel to the ground, and curl the section of hair under.

Step 2: Once you remove the curling iron, pin this section in place to let the curl cool. Following the same technique, continue sectioning all of your hair, curling it and pinning it.

Step 3: Once you’ve curled your whole head, add some hairspray all over. Allow the entire hair to cool and set for at least 10-15 minutes. Make sure you are not ruining the pins while you are waiting for them to cool.

Step 4: After, gently remove all pins and allow the curls to fall naturally.

Step 5: To create soft waves and for your hairstyle to look more natural, comb though the curls to break them slightly. You may even flip your head and run fingers through your hair.

Here is another amazing trick: adding a ribbon or a flower accessory on your hair will make it look softer and more feminine!
