How to Live Happier and Healthier Life

“Happiness is the meaning and the purpose of life, the whole aim and end of human existence.” Aristotle said this more than 2,000 years ago. And it still holds true today. What is the true purpose of life, if not to live a happy life? This year, you may have made a variety of New Year’s resolutions to improve your mind, your finances, or your health. Many people, however, tend to lose focus of their goals, and the promises made on the first of the year are soon forgotten. You don’t need to make a resolution to improve your life, as there are many simple changes you can make at any time. To be happy and healthy does not require a lot of money or time – just a little desire and motivation.


  1. Get quality sleep every day.


Sleep is a vital indicator of overall health and well-being. We spend up to one-third of our lives asleep, and this remains an essential question throughout our lifespan. People who can get by on four hours of sleep sometimes brag about their strength and endurance during the day. But scientific studies show that not sleeping at least 7 hours causes many significant changes in the body. For instance, this lack of sleep increases your risk for serious health concerns such as obesity, disease, and even early death. The healthy amount of sleep for the average adult is around seven to eight hours each night. If you cannot get enough sleep during the night, then naps are another option. Naps increase alertness and performance on the job, enhance learning ability and purge negative emotions while enhancing positive ones.


  1. Exercise even if you have a busy schedule.


We all know by now that maintaining an active lifestyle should be one of our top priorities in life. Other than health benefits too numerous to mention, exercise makes you smarter, happier, improves sleep, increases libido and makes you feel better about your body. It’s easy to feel motivated about the idea of exercising. Let’s all run marathons! But somehow, a lot of our plans get messed up sometimes that there is barely any time left to fit an exercise into our busy routine. For starters, you should stop thinking that 24 hours are not enough to do everything. There is always time to sneak a workout into your super busy schedule even if this means that you have to exercise for just 30 minutes a day. Sometimes you don’t need or even 30 minutes to get a complete, effective workout. Some efficient exercises are virtually always better than none!


  1. Say goodbye to your comfort zone.


Nothing is more damaging to our happiness than choosing to continue the way you live without changing the small things which make you unhappy. Monotony becomes the order of the day, and despite believing that staying in the comfort zone is best for them, this only serves to increase their feeling of insecurity in the world. If you are tired of your boring, task-driven and same old days, then why don’t you try to do something fun and interactive? For instance, you may go out with friends to the local pub, play bowling with co-workers, go to a romantic restaurant for your first date or even go bungee jumping. Spend time with people you love and things which make you happy. All in all, try to focus on being happy in the present and enjoying life day-by-day.


  1. Find a hobby that makes you feel happy and energized.


Did you know that certain hobbies provide a lot of other benefits such as motivating you to be a better person? Whether it is reading, cooking, sport or photography, finding a hobby can be a killer way to motivate yourself to reach a goal. If fitness becomes your new hobby, for example – and only when done in a healthy and non-aggressive manner – it can generally raise your endorphin and dopamine levels to the point where your attitude toward life and yourself is made significantly more positive. Travelling is another great way to uplift your confidence level, make you a better trip planner and help you become a better observer.


  1. Stop blaming others, even if they are wrong.


When you see yourself as a victim of circumstances, it creates a sense of helplessness. There is a common belief that if you are sad, miserable, or unhappy, someone has to be responsible for it, and therefore blamed for it. It is easier to blame others for your shortcomings than it is to take responsibility for them. You have to work with what you’ve got, and make things better for yourself. If you are not happy with your current job, then you need to stop complaining or blaming anyone for this. Go out and look for a second job, or a new job, or starting something on the side. When you feel in control of your life and capable of making changes and improvements, however, it can increase your sense of happiness. The right thing to do is to start crediting yourself and others for any happy moments or any steps taken to become happier!
