It is well-known that the older a person gets, the harder it is for them to lose weight and to keep fit. This is usually because ones metabolism slows down the older they get. And the other reason is that one’s body becomes weaker and simply less energetic.

That is often why people gain weight in their retirement years. If you do not want this to happen to you, then you could start doing some activities that will help you with this. And not only this, but when you grow older you should continue doing them.

#1 Strawberries, apples, and onions

The first tip that we will share with you is about you the food you need to have. The most important thing is to try to eat healthily. It does not matter how old a person is, they first need to think about their health and this surely does not include junk food, chips, and even candies.

If you want to help your body not gain weight while growing old, then you need to add in your diet strawberries, apples, and onions, or spring onions as well. Researches show that foods which contain a lot of flavonoidshelp with weight loss and keeping one’s weight. Other foods that belong to this list are grapes, cherries, raspberries, and broccoli. So, the soon you include them in your diet, the better.

#2 Be physically active

It is probably no surprise to hear that if you want to keep fit and not gain weight, you need to be physically active. Which means that you have to do some kind of exercises. One of the best one for losing weight and keeping fit is running. There are a lot of other kinds of physical activities one can do as well.

If you are not into running, or you hate going to the gym, then you may find another sport more suitable for you. Or if you have reached your retirement age and you do not consider yourself physically fit for sports, you may simply walk. Walking will help you burn some calories even if they are not that many and will help your body not getting lazy.

#3 Forget about dieting

One of the biggest mistakes some people make is to think that diets lead to a healthy lifestyle and staying fit and slim. However, this is not true. A lot of diets make a person lose weight but in a couple of months after they stop their diet and continue eating the same way as before, they not only put on the weight they have lost, but sometimes they may even gain extra weight.

That is why one should do not go on diets not only in their retirement age, but also in every stage of their lives. The best way not to gain weight and to stay fit, when we talk about food, is to eat healthy.

Do not eat too many sweet things. If you want to have something sweet, it is best to have some fruit. Vegetables should also be part of your meals. Forget about junk foods and fried ones because they not only make you gain weight, but are not good for your health.

#4 Do not neglect your health

It is very important to be healthy and everybody knows that. If one neglects their health, this may lead to some serious problems and to gaining weight as well. They are some kind of illnesses which make people gain weight even if they do not have too many calories with their meals. That is why one should pay regular visits to the doctor and make sure their health is intact.
