It’s the most wonderful time of the year – the festival season! With Coachella just around the corner, and music festivals happening all through the summer, music festivals are the perfect time to experiment with hairstyles that wouldn’t necessarily function in the real world. Lucky for you, this season’s hottest hair look is the faux undercut, the simplest solution for quick and easy hairstyles and it is achievable in just a few steps. This tutorial will show you how achieve the lovely faux undercut look!
Comb or brush it through to remove all major tangles. Whether you have fine, thick, long or short length hair, we all face the same problem: any slight knot risks make your hair difficult to style. To properly detangle your hair, comb out the ends first, and then detangle a few inches higher repeatedly until you’ve done your whole length. Once you have a tangle-free hair, use the tail end of a rat-tail comb to create the size section you want.
Spray some water on this section. The hair should be slightly damp, but not too wet. At the hairline, divide the first hair section into three equal parts as you would to begin any braid. Start braiding the faux undercut. It’s up to you how far you want to go in your hair but it is best advised to stop somewhere near the ear. Continue braiding, each time adding a little more hair until you’ve run out of hair to add. Then, add a bobby pin to secure the small braid.
Start the next faux undercut braid. For best looking side braids, make sure it’s the same size as the first section. It’s helpful to have a spray bottle nearby filled with water to help with detangling. When you reach the end of the new braid, secure it with a bobby pin to prevent it from falling. Create another row of braids until you have braided all of the hair pieces in the divided section. The faux undercut braids should each be the same size. Mist the style with a light hold hairspray and you’re done!
